Prompt #1 (October 6): What is the “truth” of mythology?
The general term “mythology” encompasses the stories that a culture creates to understand the truth of the world they live in and their place within it. From a personal standpoint, it is about understanding who we are and where we fit in our world experience. What is the "truth" of mythology as we have studied it? What truth have you learned from our investigations? What personal truths have been revealed to you?
Mythology has fascinated millions of people. Mythology’s aroma lures people into its interesting information. In mythology there are many creative stories but little of it is the truth. It is hard to find truth in mythology because they are myths. If a myth was true and really happened it would be believed as a fact. For people to believe a myth is true it must have valid proof like a fossil or something else. It also can’t have impossible things like talking animals or supernatural powers because most people don’t believe that kind of thing is real. I have not learned any truth from the myths we have covered. We mainly covered myths on Greek mythology and all of it was mainly about magical powers. I am not Greek so I would not believe in it but the Greeks clearly thought it was true. There were not many truths in the myths I have read. Mythology were usually stories made up just to answer the question of how was that made or why, so you cannot expect much truth.
Prompt #2 (November 6): Truth in Lord of the Flies
In our reading of William Golding's Lord of the Flies, we looked at issues of fear and evil, the "beast within." What can we learn and apply from Golding's work, either on a personal or societal level? What truths did you find in this novel or in our discussions about it?
The Lord of the Flies has shed light on the dark subject of fear. It showed how the fear acted how it grew and what planted that seed of fear. It also shows that fear is a lie. It told us about the truth of logic and how fear is destroyed when using logic. If we are terrified by something like a scary movie, we can just apply logic to it and we destroy the fear. The truths in the novel is that a human can be savage canables. We can lose logic in our world and destroy it. It also shows the evil that can grow inside you without the use of logic. Once you lose logic the world crumbles and it takes you with it.
